Inter RAO says doubles power exports to China from Friday

MOSCOW, Oct 1 (PRIME) -- Russian power holding Inter RAO has raised exports to China by 90% starting from Friday as compared with October 2020 on request of the Chinese state power grid company, the company said in a statement on Friday.

The governments of several Chinese provinces located mainly in the country’s northeast are trying to cope with disruptions in power and heating supplies that emerged due to the lack and high prices for coal and natural gas.

Inter RAO said that planned exports to China in October 2021 will double on October 2019. Exports through all three power transmission lines will grow, the company said.

Currently, the capacities of the power transmission lines allow Russia to export up to 6–7 billion kilowatt-hours (kWh) to the country, while the average annual amount of power exports in 2018–2020 stood at 3.1 billion kWh, the company added.
